Massachusetts Audubon
Society, Wenham, MA. The Massachusetts
Audubon Society is the largest conservation organization
in New England, concentrating its efforts on protecting
the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife.
The Society protects over 29,000 acres of conservation
land, conducts nature education programs for over
250,000 adults and children annually, and advocates
for sound environmental policies across the state,
Massachusetts Audubon operates 41 wildlife sanctuaries
that are open to the public and serve as the base
for its conservation, education, and advocacy
efforts.
New Hampshire's Coastal
Program /Coastal Nonpoint Pollution Control Program
(CNPCP). The CNPCP manages land
use activities (agriculture, forestry, land development,
marinas/recreational boating and channelization)
that cause secondary sources of "pollution"
to coastal waters and habitats. Activities
include coordination, technical assistance, education,
and research. CNPCP is a project of the
NH Coastal Program. The Coastal Program serves
as the lead agency in coordinating policies and
planning for 17 communities in the coastal watershed.
Both the CNPCP and the NH Coastal Program are
part of the NH Office of State Planning.
Tusket River Environmental
Protection Association (TREPA),
Tusket, Nova Scotia. TREPA was formed in 1986
as a result of pollution entering the Tusket River
from Rio Algom's tin mine near East Kemptville
NS. From this issue, TREPA has expanded its areas
of interest to include all environmental concerns
affecting our planet. TREPA began as a local grassroots
organization and is now recognized and active
throughout all of Canada.TREPA is an active member
of both the Nova Scotia Environmental Network
and the Canadian Environmental Network. Currently
the Association has been working closely with
the Southwest Regional School Board as the Nova
Scotia component of the Gulf of Maine Institute.
